Terrorism in the United States The events of Sept 11, 2001 have dramatically changed the way most Americans live their lives, we must all be more familiar with and attentive to our surroundings and what's going on around us. We can live our lives and go on with our daily activities but will always remember the tragic events of this day, citizens should be alert to any Suspicious activities they see and notify the proper authorities when they see something that looks Suspicious or out of place, we must also be careful not to single out any person or group based on their ethnic background. If you feel something you see is suspicious or just not right, please don't hesitate to call 9-1-1, just be prepared to answer a few simple questions regarding what you saw and what makes you think it is suspicious in nature. Frequently Asked Questions Q. What should I do if I receive a suspicious package in the Mail? A. If you receive a package or letter in the Mail that you feel is Suspicious you should immediately get away from the package or letter, wash your hands, and call 9-1-1. Q. What will happen then? A. A Police Officer will be Dispatched to your home to investigate your complaint, if he feels it necessary he may ask that a Hazardous Materials team from the Fire Dept be Dispatched to handle the Package. Q. What makes a Package or piece of mail Suspicious? A. There are many different things that may make a Package or Letter seem Suspicious to people, the overall rule is that if you think it is Suspicious call 9-1-1, and be able to tell the Dispatcher why you think it is Suspicious. Q. What should I do if I get any type of Powdery Substance on me from the Package or Letter. A. You should remove any clothing that the Substance may have spilled on and place that article of clothing away from yourself and other people, also immediately wash your hands with Soap & Water, call 9-1-1 and be sure to tell the Dispatcher that you came in contact with the Substance and what you have done to minimize your risk. Q. Should I see a Doctor if I come in Contact with a Suspicious Substance from a letter or Package? A. Yes, you should go to a Dr. or Hospital Emergency Room as soon as possible, it may take several days for the Substance to be positively identified as harmful or not, so see a physician for further guidance. |
