Emergency Police Response All citizens who ask for a police response are asked questions to determine their emergency. This is important because the dispatchers must determine the priority in which to make the call. The dispatchers may ask the following questions, depending on the emergency:  What is the location of the offense? Who is involved? Are there weapons involved? What is the phone number from which you are calling? Can you provide descriptions of those involved? Do you wish to speak with the officer when he or she arrives? If the caller is reporting an assault, is anyone injured?No information is provided about the caller if the caller wishes to remain anonymous. If injuries are reported,the caller will be asked several questions and then offered emergency medical instructions over the phone until an ambulance arrives. These instructions have been proven to save lives and increase the chances of the survival of the patient. All requests for police assistance are received AND dispatched by trained dispatchers. Police officers respond to the scenes of emergencies, but dispatchers are the citizens' vital link to all forms of emergency services. |
