Emergency Fire Response The city of Roanoke has 14 fire-EMS stations located throughout the city. All stations are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with paid, professional firefighters who are also trained as Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics. When your call is received, personnel from the closest available fire station will be dispatched immediately to the scene of the fire. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MOST FREQUENT TYPES OF FIRE CALLS RECEIVED BY 911? Structure Fires Always leave a burning building BEFORE calling for help! Vehicle Fires Always tell the dispatcher if the vehicle is located next to a building and if anyone is still in the vehicle. Many people are burned trying to extenguish vehicle fires themselves. Brush or Trash Fires Always tell the dispatcher how close the brush or trash is to another object (structure, car, etc.). Airport Fires The Roanoke City Communications Center handles tower alerts from the Roanoke Regional Airport. Anytime the airport has any type of emergency, Roanoke City Police and Fire-EMS respond. The airport tower has a direct line into the communications center. Fire Station 10, located at the airport, is staffed with specialized equipment to handle airport emergencies and disasters. |
